A word that sounds familiar. From 14th century, meaning cloudy as in the nebula in the night sky. While it was used in its scientific meaning, relating to gases in the nebula, in the 17th century onward, it is still more often used in literary and ordinary parlance in its figurative sense rather than literal sense.
