Virginia Woolf wrote a famous essay in which she says “All I could do was to offer you an opinion upon one minor point—a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction.” In celebration of women writing, and all artists of every ilk, having a room of their own in which to create, in which to live safely and snugly, from which to adventure forth without fear knowing she can return, and in which to have the security of not-poverty nor homelessness but a place of belonging, we have this day! If you are lucky enough to have a room of your own, celebrate and write something for the lucky station in life you’ve reached. If you don’t have a room of your own, find a library and settle into a nook and imagine yourself in a room of your own!
