September 5, 2022 is Labor Day in the US. The celebration of trade union workers and workers of all types dates back to the end of the 19th century. The US federal holiday started in 1894, signed by President Grover Cleveland, for federal workers, but even at that early stage, 30 states already celebrated the holiday for their workers as well.

Writers are workers and we deserve to celebrate. Also, it’s important to bring workers to life through our stories. For an interesting discussion on modern day labor issues and trade unionism, I encourage you to watch Roy Wood Jr.’s deep dive video, “How Flight Attendants Navigate the Not-So-Friendly Skies” at https://youtube.com/watch?v=hfJ_QbhUMck .
