February is Black History Month. Here’s to celebrating the birthday of Victor Lavalle, who writes speculative fiction and horror. His novel The Ballad of Black Tom converges black history into the horror genre in a slap to the racism legacy of H.P. Lovecraft (more coming on that). LaValle has won many awards for his novels and short stories, including the Pen/Open Book Award, the Shirley Jackson Award, and the British Fantasy Award, among others. His novels include Big Machine, The Devil in Silver, The Ballad of Black Tom, and The Changeling. Celebrate! Read!
