Sitting on my To-Be-Read shelf is the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library’s copy of TEACHER MAN by Frank McCourt. He was born August 19, 1930 and so we celebrate his birthday now. Most famous for ANGELA’S ASHES, he is also know for his novel ‘TIS and other works. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he grew up in Limerick, Ireland. You would think with that background, he might be funny, and his novels are infused with humor but they are tinged heavily with tragedy and pain. He’s received many honors, including the Pulitzer Prize. Now is a good time to read or re-read his works.
