Ann Lane Petry. Born 10/12/1908. Died 1997. Ann Lane Petry was a Connecticut native and the first black woman in America with book sales that exceeded 1 million copies. Her first novel, THE STREETS was her most famous, but she also wrote other best sellers, including THE NARROWS, along with titles for children on Harriet Tubman, the Saints, and others.
