Today, June 5, we celebrate the birthday of Spanish poet, playwright, and theater director, Federico García Lorca. Born in 1898, he established a reputation alongside Luís Buñuel and Salvador Dalí. His life ended tragically during the Spanish Civil War.

A tiny sample:

Little Ballad of Three Rivers

The Guadalquivir River

Flows between orange and olive.

Two rivers of Granada

Come down from snow to wheat field.

Ah, Love, the unreturning!

Today is a celebration worthy of Pride Month, as Lorca embraced and struggled with his homosexuality. Read more of his poetry here: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/federico-garcia-lorca.
